Not the right ones clearly.
Fu handed off his OC duties to Corny while Pry has just been kind of clueless about everything. Briles saw his dad take a not-well-funded team to the tops of college football at Baylor. He's also the best OC in the business, and still young, so I'd have to think he'd be a much better recruiter than Fu.
Like I said, the offensive guy from the B12 is what got Tennessee out of their mess.

Mississippi State, Boise State, Arizona, Kansas, Iowa State
All have around or less the same amount of money as VT. Ole Miss only has slightly more, as in their football revenue is $149M vs our $144M. I think we are below all of these schools in on the field performance.
I asked ChatGPT how we were performing compared to our budget since Pry arrived, and here's the response....
Since Brent Pry arrived (2022) VTβs football record is 16β21 (2022β24) while the athletic department runs on ~$122M a year. Meanwhile programs with way less money (Boise State: football dept. spending in the low-20sM / athletics revenue ~ $60M) put up ~30β12 in the same span (2022β24). Even schools listed near VT on budget tables (Iowa St ~$111M, Mississippi State ~$110M) have managed better recent seasons.
Bottom line: VT is not getting the wins per dollar compared with some peers β and thatβs a fair part of why folks are griping about coaching, recruiting, and the ADβs recent calls for more investment.

Most critically, we're still underperforming that budget
Sure, it's 14th or whatever, but the team is not even performing at a level worthy of the $122M. There are many teams out there with less budget who are in much better shape as a program than Virginia Tech -- that's what grinds my gears the most.

Bring on Kendall Briles
By far the best HC option of all the names I've seen thrown out there. Dude is a slam dunk, and an offensive minded guy like him is what got Tennessee out of their "lost in the wilderness" days post Fulmer.

Every school is raising fees
Or else we wouldnβt be 14th in the ACC in football funding while also having the 3rd largest student population.

Kendall Briles... I'm shouting it from the rooftops
Hereβs my thingβ¦ We can't compete trying to build teams like UGA and Ohio State. We don't have the money, so why are we trying to do that? A Briles' run offense is the best equalizer we can hope for, and I think Briles is the best young OC in the country. I wanted him ahead of the Pry hire, and luckily for for someone (hopefully us), he's still available.

I don't think I've ever seen a team fold like a wet paper bag like we did
The body language, the pathetic showing overall in the 2nd half was abysmal. This is a coaching issue as much as it's a talent one.
Bring on Kendall Briles.

Absolutely correct. 4th and an inch, you go for it.
Bc it was clear that the defense wasn't stopping them again after that drive to open the 3rd quarter.

We need an offensive coach if we don't have money
We can't compete with teams like UGA and Ohio State money wise, so why try to build a team like them? A Briles' offense is the best equalizer we can hope for.

And we've got the 3rd largest student enrollment in the ACC (per google)
Logically, you'd think that would help with the money, but I know nothing about how student enrollment affects a university's budget.

You're right
My memory is failing me! :( Not sure why I remembered it like that, but I was so sure I was right that I didn't even look it up until you posted.

I'm pretty sure Iowa State hired him almost immediately
Before we even were seriously in the search, so we really never had much of a shot at hiring him. I remember mentioning him a lot on the boards. Dude's a great coach, but Iowa State did not draw out their hiring process at all.
That said, it's hard to blame Whit for the Fuente hire -- dude was one of the most sought after coaches on the market. In fact, I was told by someone on the Georgia Board of Regents that UGA had wanted Fuente, but he said "no" because he wanted to be at VT. True story. They ended up with their second choice, Kirby Smart, and I'm sure they are really happy it worked out that way.

Word on Stewart is YAC king
I remember a tweet about him being #2 in the country in yards after contact, like ahead of Tuten (and behind Jeanty). I tried to find said tweet and couldn't so you'll have to take my word for it. I'm excited to see him tonight.

Idk man... I have both Tuten and Herbert above at least one of those guys
And it's Evans. (Though I was at that Maryland game when he went for that preposterous amount of yards, that was fun.)
2006 Branden Ore was insane -- one of my all time favorite seasons in terms of watching a VT RB cook. He carried that team. However; after 2006 he was never again the same back.

Thoughts on Hawkins after week 1?
He didn't have a ton of room to run, but still had 15 carries for 58 yards β better than Tutenβs first game as a Hokie -- 19 carries for 55 yards against ODU, because he also didn't have a ton of room to run. However; for most people watching, I think Tuten still passed the eye test that night.
I was watching from the stands and Sunday, and have not rewatched the game yet, so did Hawkins also pass the eye test this weekend?

Cody Kennedy from Big Rock, population 199 (Link inside)
Big Rock is like a suburb of Grundy. Anyway, this dude... I mean... He's incredible. My buddies showed it to me this past weekend, and video has been up for almost a year with under 10k views -- he's too good for so few views.
