It may be a stretch, but man that opening round match with Bianchi could
Have been a huge turning point for him.
Certainly a lot of other factors at play, but I do think that if he makes that happen, goes in a 50-50 matchup with some momentum against a familiar opponent, I don't think it is a stretch to say he could have taken that same path Hepner did to the podium.

I say we just lean into the National Duals.
I would imagine it would be easier to get tickets to. Fly out to Tulsa and watch Robie take the crown.
And that giant check.

One thing I hope becomes a byproduct of having someone like Bo in the room
is a bump in our sense of urgency for bonus points. He steps on the mat knowing he's walking away with at least a TF - and hopefully that mindset of constantly trying to score and turning decisions into MD's, and so on, is contagious.
Now excuse me while I spend the rest of the work going over the last decade of results to see how different they'd be if we got one more score.

Anyone with insight/knowledge on the inner workings of an Athletic Dept -
How concerned should the wrestling community be concerned about - allegedly - a new AD coming in. Allegedly.
With the focus being on football and revenue if it does happen, should we be concerned about funding/support for the smaller sports like wrestling? Just curious how this could effect us down the road whether positive or negative.

Or you holler at Robie & Frayer and....
do it AT the dual! Center of the mat, under the lights!

Wait to hire him until Football starts and everyone is *****ing about that!
Then wrestling will be so far off the schools radar - Especially with reduction in his charges. And I've got to imagine if Robie were to vouch for him, they would listen.
Plus, I would imagine we (or whoever does pick him up) could get him at a discount considering the current situation. I don't mean low-ball offer - don't disrespect him - but if we have enough to offer a decent salary along with an amazing opportunity to stay in the sport with a quality program, and be around to help his brother? That would be an enticing offer for me at least

Could we not hire him for SERTC?
Bring him in and let the dust settle and then elevate him down the road? An RTC could keep him off the radar and provide an opportunity to show growth and so on. But also, and more importantly (selfishly) for us, we gain a great wrestling brain in the room.
I say this knowing next to nothing about hiring coaches for RTC's, nor the SERTC budget, so apologies if that is a dumb idea

Who would you like to see the Hokies have a home-and-home with?
I'm excited for the Oklahoma State dual - hopefully we can even the score from last years whoopin. But I think that would be a big deal for the fan base having big time matchups coming through Blacksburg, as well as for recruiting.
A few that I would like to see would be ASU, Nebraska, and Rutgers (with more regularity and get in with those Jersey boys!).
Who are some other teams you'd like to see?

Bryce & Caleb jump into US Freestyle rankings at 70kg w/ Flo
Sitting 3-4, and I'm not sure they are done. Program changers.

Which would be your preferred outcome?
Bryce finally gets his big moment and goes on to win WTT
or Caleb moves on and gets revenge on Lovett in finals?

I've been fascinated with this counter for a while.
Stuff the head? nah.
Sprawl? nah.
Cross-face? hell nah.
I'm just gonna grip it and rip it!

Shoutout Sean Gray coaching at Standford now
Didn't realize he was there until watching one of the Henson-Abas matches and he was in the corner.

Do you remember his match with David Taylor in 2013 NCAA?
I thought he was going to snap DT's head clean off the way he'd try to roll him through with that headlock. Mean sunuva***** hah

EV is certainly deserving.
I think I was trying to hard to avoid recency bias - but I reckon he'll leave Blacksburg as probably our best 125.
And I know I still threw Caleb Henson on there, but I'd say a 3x AA, 2x Finalist, and 1x Champ transcends recency bias haha.

All-Time Grapplin' Gobblers
There were a few I couldn't settle on. We'll certainly disagree on some of these, so let me know who you think I got wrong.
*Did not include transfers, but certainly some would make a claim - particularly at 133 w/ Korbin Myers and CMg.
125 â Joey Dance & Sam Latona
133 â Brandon Glover (3rd @ 130 - 1959)
141 â Sean Gray & Devin Carter
149 â Caleb Henson
157 â Nick Brascetta & Bryce Andonian
165 â Mekhi Lewis (HM David McFadden)
174 â Mekhi Lewis (HM Zach Epperly)
184 â Zack Zavatsky & Hunter Bolen
197 â Jared Haught
285 â Ty Walz
Sorry if there is already a list/thread on this.

I thought the same thing.
It seemed Ridge was trying to show the ref he was the aggressor early, and show Caleb he wasn't going to get bullied...
...although I thought he did end up getting bullied and was losing steam the second half of the match. The one thing that came to mind in the 3rd period for me was - if he had maybe taken top in the 3rd and put a hard ride on 1) to maybe work towards the riding point, but 2) to just make Ridge work underneath for a bit. He seemed to be cracking even if just a bit. I just wonder if putting in some work on top would have opened things up a little more later.
All that said, still okay with the call. Dude knows what he's doing

Correct me if I'm wrong HokieToph, but
I read his statement as - there were less than 10 transgender athletes out of 550,00 NCAA athletes, but we had a huge public outcry to get them out and even had an executive order to do so.
Yet, in the case of PSU apparently getting Ono, we have yet another example of a school bringing in a "ringer" from outside the US that is starting their collegiate career when most student athletes are finishing up theirs - and in this case a world champion. It may not happen in wrestling super often, but it sure does happen with regularity in other sports. Specifically XC & Track.
To me he's just pointing out the hypocrisy of folks complaining about fairness in the sport. Not necessarily saying men in womens sports is no big deal.

I mean,
This is just over a year ago...
To make that jump and qualify and grab some points at the NCAA is amazing.

On paper, certainly
But Wolak has O'Toole this morning - although O'Toole had his hands full with Norman from Stanford last night, who Wolak beat at ACC. So maybe Wolak does make a *trip* to semi's (heyohhh)
But I think Hip has a nice path on the backside. Seibrecht is a winnable match, then the (potential) chance to eliminate Ed Scott next match. Then likely the UNCO kid in bloodround.

Thanks. I'm excited to see what Wolak does this year
I had coached against him when he was a freshman/soph in HS. He wrestled our senior captain and boy he launched him at least 2-3 times. He'd fight off his back for an escape and step right back into it and go for another ride. Love to see it wasn't just us that couldn't stop it!

Has anyone seen or heard anything on Andonian/Hip/Wolak in the room?
I can only imagine how fun those live go's have to be with their respective backgrounds and styles.
