Posting History (59)

We don’t think we are anything over the top

yet you all somehow do despite middling attendance by halftime for over a decade. Knock yourself out though. Better than thinking about this season I’m sure!

Both games were decided in the final seconds, UVA chance to win first game

and VT a chance to tie the latter. And both after healthy leads were squandered. Lots of parallels.

Speaking of not knowing football,

I guess you didn’t realize that pass interference in college is a 15-yard penalty, not a spot foul like in the NFL πŸ˜‰

Last night made me think of that exact scenario (Tigers Galarraga)!

If college football had no replay like baseball then, the Hokies would’ve won! But last night’s botched call at the end was corrected under review. I’ve watched too much football in my life and that’s never been a completion. Galarraga and the Detroit Tigers were not so lucky.

If situations were reversed, and Miami β€œcaught” that, no one here would

think that was a catch, And they’d be right. It wasn’t a secured catch by any definition. Never completed the catch. If it happened in the field of play, it would’ve been an interception. But the Miami defender was out of bounds, so no catch (incomplete). Bad break though. Got to squeeze it.

Tony has 8 ACC titles now and of course, the national championship

I think comparing Mike Young to him is a disservice to Young who is a solid coach in his own right. Your first 4 year comparison is fair but I’d be careful of (perhaps unintentionally) setting that expectation of him to have anywhere near the ridiculous level of success that Tony has achieved. Young just needs a little more talent and he could be dangerous. I see VT’s roster as a very good mid-major type roster that can beat anyone with a hot shooting night (or weekend in Brooklyn ) but unlikely to compete with the ACC heavyweights over the course of a grueling regular season. And like VT’s football ceiling is higher than UVA’s, UVA’s basketball ceiling is higher. Much better history, pedigree, and brand, bigger and more passionate hoops fanbase, better facilities, etc. I viewed Buzz as much more of a threat to UVA given his pedigree (and willingness to bend the rules) but I think Young can continue to have you as a mid-tier ACC team most years and a threat for the NCAAT if things break right.

Syracuse has lost its 3 ACC games by a combined score of 112-24

The line is fishy. They are horrible and Dino and the team knows he is done.

You helped show by Pastner, who isn’t a great coach, that winning the

ACCT, that is it doable with an outstanding weekend but it’s not a harbinger for great success. I think Mike Young is a good coach but there was certainly a lightning in a bottle feel to Brooklyn. It’s a very special run that should always be remembered but VT has been a mid-carder under his helm. Under .500 in the ACC. That’s not a knock as I understand VT’s pedigree/history which is likely the worst in the ACC.

They admitted afterwards it was a mistake by rule

The only difference between Flagrant 1 and Flagrant 2 was if it was intentional.
