Posting History (48)

Portal is closed!

Does it open again before the season at all? I would assume he will next year though!

Understood

But Caleb was what 141/149? A lot different than 175/184 whatever carini projects at. He’s a great prospect.

That’s a stretch..

It’s very difficult for an upper weight to come in and make an immediate impact as a freshman. Carini didn’t place and while he kept the match close he couldn’t take Burton down. A win is a win and loss is a loss. There are no moral victories in wrestling. That being said, he’s young and will be a great asset for VT to have in the room. Hard to get excited about someone who might not see the mat for us for another two years. Hopefully he signs in November because he’s only verbally committed at this point.

He’s going 79kg for open

So I would assume that means 165 is not option for Burton.

Yeah except Burton will be the 174

So thinking carini redshirts and then maybe goes 184 after that if Burton doesn’t.

Campbell hurt

Wrestling insider posted on instagram that Campbell is hurt and out for the remainder of the year. Don’t know if true.

Late Saturday and Sunday?

Looks like it will start late Saturday and then Sunday will be a problem. Hoping it doesn’t affect the dual!

Burton has 2 more

He wrestled SE open, National Duals and Patriot Open. He was unattached for midlands so doesn’t count.

From Flo article on CKLV

Robie is sending six wrestlers to this weekend’s Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational: Drew Gorman (141), Dillon Campbell (133), Collin Gaj (157), Mac Church (165), Ben Weader (165) and Parker Ferrell (285). Another crew will compete at George Mason in the Patriot Open.

Where did you hear that?

Wondering when the decision will be made. He’s at 3 events now.

Gas tank was there

A bit of hesitation/insecurity it looked like. He was the better wrestler by far but has to pull the trigger.

Looks like he may have broke his nose

In the first match today he got head butted and was wobbling I thought they would have put him in concussion protocol honestly. Two days of making weight is a lesson. He looked great day one and I think once he gets a handle on the weight management he’s going to be a force

Why do you think that is?

Genuinely curious. Why burn event for burton and not the others. Bummer about Seidel being banged up but sounds like he will be back sooner rather than later which is good.

Burton has a ton of offense

He teched his way through the entire NJ state tourney this year (3 events - districts, regions then states). With the exception of the finals where he won 20-4. If he can keep his strength, which it sounds like the cut has been fine for him, he will be a real problem.

I wonder how credible this is…

Also has Chavis and gage as wrestlers to watch and neither are on the roster.

Flo interviews with some of the guys and Coach Robie ** Edited by Hokie9436 at 10/21/2025, 3:38:54 PM

Academically Ineligible???

Not sure if that could be a reason? Don’t know if you get removed from roster for that.

Any word on the Recruits?

I see they have been on campus for a few weeks now! Any idea how it’s going?

This is not true.

They are not best friends. Actually Ryan Burton and Zack Ryder grew up together and trained together out of this club in NY, underground since they were little. Hoping maybe we have a shot of Ryder coming in.

I agree

Nothing about what he committed to at VT has changed so he knew what he was signing up for and committed. PSU was also in play when he committed so something changed and it has to be what PSU was offering.

No disrespect

But he loses and the first thing you do is come on this forum looking for comments and then get mad when you see them? Obviously we are all fans of the program on here and we want all the guys to succeed. Discussing wins and losses is part of that. We all know wrestling is just as much mental as it is physical and match awareness is just as important as gas tank, and all that other stuff we always discuss here. Again, no disrespect, TJ had a great showing, still a lot of season left to go, and no doubt he will finish strong just like he did last year. I’m sure we can all agree on that!

That was just not good wrestling IQ

He basically pinned himself. If he would have just given up the takedown you take bottom in third and get out. He looked great physically though.

Torres had a good match and Burton had a bad one…

Big fan of Burton. WNO he didn’t look like himself if you watch his other events from last year. Think that was a one off. He is way more athletic than he performed that night. It happens.

For now..

Lockett lives in Stillwater and has trained for years with John Smith and now Taylor. Burton definitely didn’t get to his offense but athletically he is right there. I think he closes the gap relatively quickly once he’s in Blacksburg full time.

I may be the only one…

But doesn’t anyone think that he may end up at a smaller program? His dad is extremely involved in his coaching, even cornered him at recent worlds. I find it hard to believe that they have built this very curated brand and now the dad is just going to hand him over to the college program? Wondering if a school that would allow the dad to be involved is more of what they are looking for..maybe bishop McCourt becomes a feeder for that school…it will be interesting to see how this plays out.
