Amazing story from along the Creeper Trail
Damascus has been hit hard by the flooding. It's a beautiful place to take a hike or bike trip in the fall. Check out this story of this couple who survived the flooding. The foresight to grab life jackets as they evacuated to the second floor was amazing.

Not the right Olinger, but..
Jerry "Tater" Olinger was the captain of Blacksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and a longtime employee with VT in the police department. Many moons ago during the first snowstorm of the winter, a now well-respected ED physician in the Richmond area and I were driving the old Suburban first response vehicle through campus on the way back from a MVC call on 460 and decided to take a detour to the Litton-Reaves parking lot to do some donuts. Lots of fun until we were lit up by the blue lights of VTPD and had to hear an earful from Tater the next day. He did call in a favor and got Christiansburg Rescue to cover the town for me and my wife's wedding in 1997 so the entire squad could attend. Good man!

Definitely weird setup
I can see some prospective students saying no to living on campus the entire 4 years and having faculty living in your dorms, but the dad part of me liked it. Seems like Greek life was a big part of our tour guides life as well which is a turn-off for many. I was in AGR, but being on Blacksburg Rescue was more impactful for me. I met my wife there, after all.

Took the boy on a visit to Vanderbilt.
I was impressed with the campus. Probably go broke living in Nashville, but definitely a cool place for school.
