The ACC Needs Somebody to Step Up

Why not us? This is pretty much rock bottom for ACC football. Look at Texas Tech? Maybe we can be next year’s TT. We should have expected the Hoos to crap the bed. Anyway, if VT, Miami, FSU and Clemson can get their act together the ACC can turn it around.

Pretty Excited About The Franklin Hire

This guy is focused and committed. His players love him in an era when the players hold all the cards. I think the biggest area VT needs to improve is recruiting talent at the high school level. I think this is his strength. He also gets that the most important part of any football team is line play. This is also where a school like VT can be most competitive in recruiting. It will be harder to land the skill positions, but a QB knowing he is going to be protected and a RB knowing his line will open holes will surely help that. I don't really like what College Football has become with the NIL and super conferences, but I think this is a great hire given the current environment. Let's hope Mr. Franklin can recruit good coordinators to help him with the Xs & Os on game day. He will bring in better talent and discipline than we have seen in a while. I think we also have a coach that cares about his players and preaches integrity and accountability. All great things from my perspective. I am also thankful to VT for upping the financial commitment. This is really tough to do when you know you will never crack the top ten in this area. This will make us competitive especially in the ACC, going further will require us to find overlooked kids that can be developed. This appears to be another area where Franklin will shine. GO HOKIES!!!!!!!!!

I Never Understood the Strong Appeal

Of a team that cannot fill its stadium. Whether it be players or coaches.

If We End Up With Chesney, How Do We Boost Recruiting?

I think the man can coach, but not sure it will matter if we don’t dramatically improve recruiting.

Not Sure Franklin Fits Auburn or LSU

Florida or Florida State maybe. Auburn goes for people like Hugh Freeze and Bruce Pearl. As for Chesney, can he recruit? We need someone who can not only coach, but recruit. I am partial to Dan Mullen if we could get him. Surely we can out do UNLV.

Dan Mullen would be fantastic

I like Chesney as a coach, but can he compete strongly in recruiting. The falloff there is more drastic than even the ineptitude of the coaching. Since we now have the money we need someone who can coach and dominate in Virginia recruiting like we used to do.

He’s gonna get fired at SC at some point

No one can really win there. He would have a much better chance to go to the big dance from VT. His choice, but the Chickens topped out last year.

He is a Really Good College Football Player

Not sure he has the raw talent to get past this level, but mentally and his heart, he is off the charts.

I wouldn’t hire Schuman as a Defensive Coordinator

Dawgs defense gives up a lot of yards and has no pass rush with exceptional talent. No Thanks!

No Urgency, No Accuracy

It’s a shame this game went in the crapper in the 4Q. Two big plays. Our offense is doing a lot of things right, but Drones looks like a deer in the headlights instead of a confident senior saying jump on my back.

Like the Coaching

Except for the ultra conservative offense with 2:37 left. O Line looks like it is doing the job. Defense seems pretty scrappy.

Too Bad SMUs QB was Like a Deer in the Headlights

Starting out with two completely unnecessary pick sixes is hard to overcome. SMU was moving the ball but couldn’t get out of their own way. At least Clemson gave Texas a game.

They Got It Right

SMU deserved the spot. They need to take out the Conference Championship results. Then you are comparing a 1 Loss team to a 3 loss team. No contest. We don’t need the Playoff to contain the 4th, 5th or 6th best teams in any conference. That cheapens the work of the top 3 teams in any conference. ESPN acts like SMU can simply schedule who they want. If you want what’s best for college football you need to say to the SEC and Big 10 that if you want to stack your teams, the down side of that is that you will have a harder path. If you want an easier path, stop the destruction of the sport for teams with great fan bases but not in their club like VT, WVU and Clemson

Three Good Quarterbacks….

Who knew? POP Watson has to be the best third string QB in the country. Regardless of health, I think he earned the Bowl Game start.

I didn’t say I wanted to Keep him

However, I don’t want a change to someone who is no better. We don’t have the pull we once had.

Pry Isn’t Getting Fired this Year

Unless the Hoos beat us. On the positive side this team has been competitive in all but one game. I think Pry has to focus on the 2:00 drill and take the next step. I don’t know if this is practice techniques, hiring an advisor or what. We do need to see some changes in the staff. Next year, on the other hand is make or break. 8 wins or you are out.

Can You Hire a 2 Minute Coach?

I have now stepped away from the ledge and now am thinking how do we fix this fatal flaw. This wasn’t the first time we saw our ineptitude in this area cost us a game, but was likely the most profound since it cost us in both halves. With plenty of time at the end of the Rutgers and Miami games, we looked like no one ever encounters this situation. I thought it was Drones, but it obviously goes deeper than that. I had finally gotten to like Pry and have seen serious improvement in years two and three in terms of talent, culture and execution. This team should have one or maybe 2 losses, not 4. So can Pry learn from this and overhaul his approach in close games or is it a fatal flaw that will not be overcome? I say he gets one or two more years and if he can’t overcome this, he will need to go. This team is far better than 5-4.

If we lose this it’s on Pry

How can you not call timeouts when Syracuse is driving. Could have had plenty of time for a field goal drive. What’s the worst thing that can happen, you stop them, run off 30 seconds and they have a a little over a minute to drive 80 yards with no time outs.

I Think Mr. Schlee Can Throw The Ball

Will miss Drones running, but so far Schlee has been on target on every pass. Tuten may be a bigger issue.

Nice Win! But Scarier Than it Should Have Been

I like the way the offense has come together as the season has progressed. The defense has some issues that need to get fixed before Clemson. The blown coverage on those two BC passing TDs was embarrassing. Tine is a stud!! My hat’s off to him. Drones is a great player for all but two or three head scratchers a game. Not covering up the ball once he had a first down on a potential TD drive was a huge mistake. Only second to his perfect pass to the BC DB. Not sure what was going on there. Gosnell was wide open for a 5 plus yard gain and he makes a horrible mistake to let BC back in the game. Lucky for us BC made so many mistakes themselves.

Until all the fans go away….

And then the money. There are several other sports to follow where the disappointment and lack of connection with rotating rosters isn’t really an issue.

Very Impressed with Clemson

They are really good. Well coached, very patient and talented. They play great defense. Not sure they can beat UConn, but I wouldn’t bet against them. NC State, on the other hand seems completely disjointed. Their point guard shoots about 30% and is constantly throwing the ball away. That said, they have no fear.

I know I am Late to the Party

But, why is the whole team in the portal? I know loyalty is a thing of the past, but this is absurd. I think Mike Young is a really good coach, but I am not sure he is a great recruiter. There is no reason we cannot be consistently at the same level as NC State or Clemson and look where they are now. Brownell is an excellent coach, Keats not so much.

The Team Earned The Seed

The body of work should dictate seeding. It shouldn’t matter if your best player is injured.

We weren’t snubbed. Pitt was.

I don’t blame Pitt for turning it down. They deserved better. For us, it’s a chance to see if we can actually start playing well consistently.

I don’t think someone intentionally hurt him or celebrated his injury

As the media is indicating. He got hurt trying to avoid the chaos. The rushing of the court with big wins happens all the time. Should security prevent this from happening until the players leave the court/field? Yes.

Filipowski Injury

I do think it’s a shame he got injured and they do need to do something more to protect the players. I am a little confused on the reporting that someone taunted him as he got injured or that someone intentionally tried to hurt him. In looking at the clip, it appears some guy put a phone to his head, and Filipowski kind of popped him in the mouth. Was that the taunting? He clearly didn’t attack Filipowski. A second guy pushed him slightly in the back. Not sure if it was intentional or just a reaction to the chaos. I don’t think either one of them was really trying to hurt him, but the second guy did push him. I think Filipowski hurt himself trying to get through the masses running towards the Wake bench.

Better Programs over the Years

Alabama Georgia Ohio State USC Oklahoma LSU Florida Florida State Nebraska Miami Michigan is a good program, but nowhere near the strongest.

FSU Has No Complaint Now

They actually had an opportunity to put their money where their mouth is but their starters quit on them. Hell, if they beat Georgia and Alabama wins it all, one of the polls may have voted them National Champs. If this is what they are all about, let them leave. UGA had absolutely nothing to prove in this game and most of their starters played.

Let β€˜Em Go - FSU Can Move to 2nd Class in SEC

Assuming the ACC has a seat at the table in the new playoff, Tech may benefit by having this obstacle out of the way. FSU will be equivalent to Tennessee in the SEC and once in a blue moon make the playoff. If they stayed in the ACC, they could be there most years. How will the money flow in a decade when a team like FSU, becomes a second tier SEC team. For Tech, success has come when they were a big fish in a lesser conference. For those that want us in the SEC, we would have a much lower chance to make the playoff. We would be South Carolina. At this point, the ruination of College Football is already running down the tracks and consolidation into two mega conferences resulting in only 5 or 6 elite programs will ultimately result in empty stadiums for many games that have been classics rivalries. Maybe the quicker we break it, the sooner we can fix it.

A Lot - TV is Behind All This Mess

The short term money grab will ultimately help no one. What has happened to Nebraska, Arkansas & Penn State to some extent will happen to Texas, Oklahoma and USC. The path becomes much tougher for them. All the while destroying the interest from teams with great fan bases at places like Virginia Tech, West Virginia, NC State, Oregon State, TCU, Oklahoma State, etc., etc., etc.

Oregon St. is Ranked, Should Play UNC

We should play WVU in the Mayo, but I think we are going to Annapolis to play the Wave.

Very Disappointing

Yes, I wish we could party like it was 1999, but this is today’s awful reality for college athletics, especially for teams like us. Hopefully Pry & Company can pull a few rabbits out of the portal to offset this and any more departures.

Judging From Their Pathetic Fan Support

For a rivalry game, especially given how much they had improved to that point, their fans clearly don’t get it. Why would any serious football recruit choose to go to UVa? The portal should be filled with Hoos who want to play for a fan base who gives a rat’s a$$.

Really Liking Mr. Drones

His accuracy is improving. A couple of earlier passes the receiver made no effort to go after a catchable ball. Finally threw it to someone who makes an effort. Need to get him better receivers next year.
