Posting History (35)

It's Not

All you have to do is keep your head up and wrap. Kids refuse to do either these days for whatever reason.

Coaches

Listening to everyone on here I can't believe most aren't coaching college or pro ball somewhere.

Speed

You have to have more than just straight ahead speed. You have to be able to make moves, change direction etc.

Scheme

Every scheme sucks if you can't execute it.

Size

We have been huge before. A lot. Maybe not strong but huge. Same result. I don't know what the problem is but it seems to be year after year. Change O line coaches, same result. Change strength coaches, same result. go with veterans, go with youth etc.etc. same result. i am clueless about this.

why?

Have you watched him play? Zero physicality.

Duh

Of course that's what you do. Draws, counters, traps and screens are exceptions but in the long run you don't block, you don't win.

QB and OL

This is why I am not sure he needs to see ophthalmologist.

2006

That is what we are talking about; recent times and the present. The Knute Rockne days don't matter.

Agreed

Plus the transfer portal. If enough of us stop attending and watching on tv, the $ will drop off and some sensible changes will be made.

No Toughness

Thats been our O LINE problem for years.

Big 12 Down this year

The usual powers, particularly Oklahoma, were not up to snuff this year. Perfect storm for TCU. Michigan game did surprise me though.

Great Guy

Coach Gentry was/is the best. Was always approachable and happy to help.

Former Players

Just curious. Some may not want to acknowledge who you are which I totally understand. Question: How many of you participated in winter weights in Jan.,Feb. of 82 and 83? Coach Mansfield was the S&C coach.

Weight Room Strength

This IS real strength. Flipping tires is supplemental. A good thing but not as good as what's done in the weight room. This, maybe unlike football, is one thing I REALLY know about. Ask Gentry which he would do if he could only do one. Guarantee it would be hit the weights. You're just flat wrong.

OL Woes

Something I heard Troy Aikman say on MNF last night. NFL coaches bemoan the lack of development of college O Linemen. I think a lot of this is from the strength coaches. I haven't been around our new program but plan to this year. From what I've seen a lot of the coaches spend a lot of time doing the "trendy" things and don't spend enough time doing the basics I.E. squats, front squats, cleans, jerks and benches. Before anything else OL needs to be strong and aggressive, especially the ones with less natural talent. Develop a strong base first, then work on the other things. As Boyd Eppley, (former great Nebraska Strength Coach) once said, " we don't want to stray too far from the beaten path." Mike Gentry seemed to follow the same philosophy.

Playing hard

Not gonna name names but some of the OL DID NOT play hard.

We need both and others

But OL performed? I must have been watching a different VT.

Play calling

Doesn't matter what they call. With this O Line it doesn't matter.

manhandled

Do our kids even lift weights? Both lines got manhandled. O line is soft as grandmas titties.

Georgia

Did you watch them? I would have sure jumped them up.

I Agree 100%

Our line never got any push. I think it was the scheme rather than the players.

Quit Reading

Quit reading when they said Alan Tisdale is a good one.
