I think the ceiling for Wessler is Craig Forth
You all probably don't remember him, but he was a Syracuse center in the early aughts who was from my town in NY.

The ACC scholly doesn't mean he belongs in the ACC...
Just means an ACC school took a chance on him to one day be an ACC-level player.
I'm not saying he's a DII player, but he's not good. Maybe someday he will be, but even on Monday when he looked better than last year, he still did not look good. He's slow, he's not strong with the ball, he doesn't appear to ever be in the right position, etc.

Woah. Doesnβt jump but sure uses his body to create space and move people
Even saw him passing to cutters from the elbow like it was normal to him.

NIL for basketball just makese more sense bang-for-buck
Basketball has 5 guys on the floor at a time. Spending big NIL on two of them can be 40% of your regulars.
Football has 11 guys on the field at a time and thus the impact of NIL per person is watered down

To me it looked like FSU learned to hit us in the mouth...
I thought FSU turned up the aggression in the second half and really started getting physical with us. They started ripping at balls with greater ferocity, crashing the glass with more gusto, etc.
They hit us and it didn't seem like we could hit them back; we let them take our lunch money without much of a fight.

He and Long are the most athletic regulars
Him being confident enough to make shots and get points at the rim raises our ceiling. He has a skillset, along with Long, that the rest of the roster lacks.

Meh - yes and noβ¦
Check out the link below, itβs not a whoβs who of college basketball fame. Buzz landed a few 4* but doesnβt seem to be many more than CMY. Seth still has our best ever recruit and my boy Ricky Stokes recruited βthe Michael Vick of basketballβ Marquie Cooke himself!
Also the missed layup was to TIE the game, not send us to the elite 8. We would still have had to out score Zion and Co in OT.

Maybe, but I don't think the portal is luring our desirables away...
We offered enough for Mutts to stay another year but couldn't get Basille to chose our offer over Italy.
It has been reported by our TSL staff that talents like Rice, Nolley, Maddox and Alleyne did not leave because of NIL or being poached. One could argue that the others that left through attrition were not pushed to retain (which could say something about our evaluations or development).

CMY & VT System Questions
Facts:
- CMY has been a successful coach
- CMY is a smart guy
- CMY has an offensive system that is based on reading and reacting
- There is a learning curve to CMY's system
- How steep and how long the learning curve is depends a lot upon the individual player (i.e., Mutts vs. Storm vs. Beran)
- VT is adding and subtracting from the transfer portal every year, often significantly
Personal thoughts:
- Having lived in Blacksburg during Ricky Stokes era, what we have seen on our worst nights this year is still an improvement over those years...
- We also appear to have a limit as to just how highly touted of a MBB player will enroll at VT
- Given our apparent limitations in recruiting MBB to the 'burg, I believe running a system that minimizes our constraints / weaknesses and maximizes our abilities / strengths is the way to sustained success at VT
Questions given the above:
- If we stick with CMY's current system, is relying upon 1-year transfers like Beran and Long really going to pay off?
- It would seem like HS kids would also be able to grow into the system (B-Rock, Young, Pedulla), but given the attrition rate how much resource should we put there?
- We do go after multi-year transfers as well (Nickel, Camden, Kidd, Mutts, Aluma), but should we put all our chips here if we intend to keep CMY's current system?
- Is CMY's current system (I'm assuming he has the ability to grow and adapt) the right approach to maximize sustained success at VT given it's complexity and the tenure of our ballers?

Camden giveth and taketh away last night. He made a couple of 3's, but...
also committed multiple turnovers and appeared to help others on the team commit multiple turnovers, leading to multiple transition points for Auburn.

It was him and the Langley brothers who committed
and I believe were then asked to decommit.

He looked ahead of where MJ was early in the season, for sure.
And he's clearly a better, more confident shooter. MJ may be more athletic.
I was impressed with both the freshmen.

Combo guards can play point or shooting guard
There are still players classified as PG or SG, but CGs have a little bit of both of their skill sets

He doesn't even crack my top 10... Greyson Allen? Tyler Hansbrough? etc...
I could list an entire two deep of Duke, UNC and Syracuse players I hate much much more...

Eating 21 cheeseburgers over the rest of the season shows your character
What is Pride and Joy willing to do to guarantee us a national title???
Carry on Chris!

Hasn't looked great yet but some things have slowed his development...
- he missed all of his tFR year due to injury
- he was out for portions of camp due to injury
- he is learning a new system
If he can stay healthy, I think he just needs time. You can't teach his length and he has range. If the coaches can get him where he's supposed to be on O and D through repetition, he can be a good one yet!

How did you all like seeing Mutts as a point-forward last night?
Noticed it happened when Pedula was off the floor. He didn't face pressure because he was being guarded by a 4, but it seemed like he was able to bring it up and effectively initiate the offense.

For a down year, the ACC still had two Final Four teams...
And 4 of the 5 teams in the NCAAT from the ACC (VT being the outlier) made noise in their bracket.
So I'm not sure much has to change in what the ACC allows. VT was more physical than some teams last year (see ND) and less than others (see Dayton). Being more physical does not always translate into W's either, all depends on the competition.
