Virginia Tech had sports before 1990.

I wouldn't say that Iowa has a "proven post game", and they aren't particularly experience. But we are even younger and don't have a post game at all outside of Rose, who is only 6'2".

Under .500 record for ten years. Under a .300 record in the ACC. Not likely a lot of opportunities to be head coach again, except maybe at a lower level. Coleman's record at Clemson was horrible. Doesn't mean that they are bad assistant coach choices. Doesn't even mean that they are horrible head coaches. Neither Clemson nor Wake Forest provides much support for women's basketball. Similar to Beth Dunkenberger - we'll never know whether she would have been a great coach with adequate support from the university. Hoover is from Roanoke. but the attitude among many in the athletic department at the time was "we can't compete in the SEC", which is, in my opinion, the attitude of a loser. I would love for VT to be in the SEC.

It goes beyond our record. Dunkenberger didn't excell, but wasn't a horrible choice or a horrible coach. But picking Wolff destroyed our reputation in the women's basketball community. JW's lack of support for the program had been grinding it down for some time, but the Wolff hire and the Wolff era was the all time low point for Virginia Tech Women's Basketball (and I've been following it since 1980). If Babcock wouldn't have hit a home run with this hire, we would still be a women's basketball backwater. KB not only got us back on the winning track, but he instantly made us respectable in the women's basketball community. I've been meaning to say that Babcock should get more credit on this board. The women's basketball program was starved by the administration for years. His hiring of KB and his continued support of the program has made a world of difference Virginia Tech in the Final Four? Ten years ago, I would have never thought it was possible in my lifetime. The image of the stunned look of the ESPN interviewer when JW said that the Wolff hire was justified because "his daughter played at UConn" is an image that I will, unfortunately, never forget.
