Maiden (N.C.) class of 2017 athlete Caleb Farley took to Twitter this afternoon to announce an important decision, one that came sooner than originally expected.
"I had stated earlier I will be verbally committing to a college June 11, but I have made my decision and would like to move on in the recruiting process. I want to thank God for blessing me with this opportunity as well as my family and friends. I would also like to thank all other schools that were recruiting me! I am committing to play football at Virginia Tech. Go Hokies and start jumping! God bless," Farley wrote in this tweet.
As Maiden's starting signal caller last season, the 6'3", 180-pound Farley threw for 1,854 yards and rushed for 1,545 more, totaling 37 touchdowns (20 pass, 17 rush) in the process. Maiden finished 2015 with a 9-4 overall record.
Farley, who is rated a 3-star recruit by 247Sports, considered offers from Wake Forest, Ohio and Old Dominion before committing to Virginia Tech and head coach Justin Fuente, who offered the talented athlete a scholarship on February 27. Farley is the second prospect out of the state of North Carolina to commit to the Hokies, joining dual-threat quarterback Hendon Hooker. Linebackers Rayshard Ashby and Aundre Kearney, defensive end TyJuan Garbutt, and defensive back Devante Smith round out Tech's current class of 2017.
