In the wake of Frank Beamer's announcement that this season will be his last as Virginia Tech head coach, Bayside (Virginia Beach, VA) 3-star recruit Phillip Patterson has decided to reopen his recruitment. Patterson, a 6'2", 185-pound senior wide receiver/defensive back, revealed his decision via Twitter.
"First I would like to thank the entire Virginia Tech coaching staff for extending their offer. Also, I would like to especially thank coach (Zohn) Burden for always being there for me throughout this whole process. With that being said I would like to announce that I have decided to reopen my recruiting process to all schools interested in me." - Patterson wrote.
Duke, North Carolina, Penn State, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest extended scholarship offers to Patterson earlier in the process. He verbally committed to the Hokies on August 1, one week after taking an unofficial visit to Blacksburg.
Virginia Tech now has 16 verbal commitments in the class of 2016. Patterson was recruited by Tech as a wide receiver, a position that still remains a strength for the Hokies in this class.
