Sophomore defensive end Melvin Keihn has been granted his release by Virginia Tech, and he will transfer. Andy Bitter of the Roanoke Times was the first to report this news, though it has been rumored for several weeks. Many feel he will end up at the University of Maryland.
Keihn played 127 special teams snaps a year ago. He was expected to play a big role on special teams again this season while serving as Virginia Tech's #5 defensive end.

That's very questionable depth behind Mihota, especially since Trevon Hill is likely unavailable this season due to a torn ACL. The Hokies could also use Tremaine Edmunds at defensive end, but he is also a true freshman.
