Jon Laaser is the new Voice of the Hokies. Laaser brings a lot of experience in play-by-play in multiple sports, and should be a good fit in the Hokie Nation.
Currently Laaser (pronounced Laser, as in Laser Beam) serves as the Director of Broadcasting for the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. In that role, he is the play by play guy for all 142 games, and he is also the host and writer for the Flying Squirrels' bi-weekly television show.
Laaser is also the voice of VCU Rams men's basketball on Comcast SportsNet, and also the Voice of Verizon Wireless Arena for VCU women's basketball games. He also serves as a frequent Sports Radio 910 (Richmond) radio host, as well as a co-host of "The Wes McElroy Show" in Richmond.
His minor league baseball experience is extensive: Montgomery Biscuits (AA - Tampa Bay Rays), Myrtle Beach Pelicans (A+ - Atlanta Braves), Altoona Curve (AA - Pittsburgh Pirates), Yakima Bears (A- - Arizona Diamondbacks), St. Paul Saints (Independent) and St. Cloud River Bats (Summer Collegiate). He has also been the Voice of Charleston Southern football and men's basketball.
