Kickoff for Virginia Tech's football game at Purdue has been announced. The Hokies and Boilermakers will play at 3:30pm on ESPNU on Saturday, September 19.
This will be the first meeting between the Hokies and Purdue. The Boilermakers went 3-9 last season, and were 1-11 in 2013.
Sediva Wins National Championship
Irena Sediva won the National Championship in the javelin thrown in Eugene, Oregon on Thursday. With a throw of 192-9 (58.76 meters), she broke a school and ACC record.
Sediva, a sophomore from the Czech Republic, became the seventh individual National Championship winner in the history of Tech's Track & Field program. Those seven individuals have combined for 15 National Championships.
Four Hokies Drafted
Major League Baseball held its annual Rule 4 draft this week, and four Virginia Tech players were selected.
Brendon Hayden (1B): Round 16, #474 overall, Philadelphia Phillies
Alex Perez (SS/2B): Round 23, #680 overall, Minnesota Twins
Saige Jenco (CF): Round 27, #801 overall, Boston Red Sox
Sean Keselica (P): Round 33, #997 overall, Pittsburgh Pirates
Jenco is only a rising r-junior, so he is free to return to Virginia Tech next season if he feels it will improve his draft stock.
Hayden is likely to begin his season in Florida with the Gulf Coast League Phillies. Perez could begin his career in the Gulf Coast League as well with the Twins' affiliate, or he could begin in Advanced Rookie ball in the Appalachian League with the Elizabethton Twins. Keselica could also play in the Gulf Coast League, or he could play for the Bristol Pirates of the Appalachian League.
