Shai McKenzie and another Virginia Tech student are in trouble with the law. Per Cameron Austin of the Roanoke Times, McKenzie has been charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
McKenzie (19) and Devin Gavion (18) were both under investigation for carnal knowledge of a child between 13 and 15, according to the report by Austin. Gavion has been charged with one count of felony carnal knowledge and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
However, the report doesn't mention McKenzie as being charged with carnal knowledge. Instead, he has been charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, which are both Class 1 misdemeanors, which are punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine up to $2,500.
McKenzie had a promising freshman season, running for 269 yards and three touchdowns on 53 carries. However, he tore his ACL against Western Michigan and was lost for the season.
According to this Tweet by Andy Bitter, McKenzie has been indefinitely suspended from all team activities.
