Virginia Tech got good news on Thursday night when Hampton (VA) High School quarterback JoVonn Quillen Jr. made his commitment.

It didn't take the 6'2", 190-pound junior long to accept the scholarship offer he received the first week in February. He grew up a huge Hokie fan, after all.

"My childhood dream was to play in front of the Hokienation," Quillen said in a TSL update on February 18. He also considered an offer from Old Dominion.

Reached through Twitter this evening, Quillen echoed his earlier sentiments.

Virginia Tech is "my dream school. I always knew I was gonna go there," Quillen wrote in a Twitter message this evening. "Marshawn (Williams) and Tyrod (Taylor) had a big effect on it. Two people coming from my old school going to the school I wanted to go to, I knew I could do the same."

What does it feel like to realize his dream of attending Virginia Tech?

"It's great," Quillen wrote. "I still can't believe I committed."

Williams, who is a freshman running back at Virginia Tech, is Quillen's cousin. Williams played at Hampton High three seasons before transferring to Phoebus for his senior season. Taylor of course starred at Hampton before moving on to Virginia Tech and then the NFL.

Quillen averaged around 227 yards of total offense per game and scored over 20 touchdowns as a sophomore in the 2013 season, which was his first as a starting quarterback on the varsity level. He totaled over 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards passing while scoring over 30 touchdowns for the 7-4 Crabbers this past season as a junior.

Quillen, who is being recruited as a quarterback, is Scot Loeffler's second quarterback commitment for the 2016 recruiting class. However, Bud Foster is also eying him for the defensive side of the ball.

Virginia Tech now has seven commitments in the class of 2016, including two quarterbacks (Quillen and Logan Byrd), two wide receivers (Sam Denmark and Conner ODonnell) and three cornerbacks (Kareem Felder, Troy Pride Jr. and Myles Wolfolk).
