February has been good to the Virginia Tech football program, which has doubled its class of 2016 commitment total. The latest pledge is Hanahan (S.C.) junior wide receiver Sam Denmark, who pledged to the Hokies last night according to 247Sports and the Roanoke Times.
Denmark also earned an offer from Wake Forest before choosing Tech, where he visited on February 7 for the Hokies' Junior Day.

The 6'0", 175-pound prospect had 40 receptions for 912 yards in 12 games his sophomore season according to MaxPreps. As a junior, Denmark averaged 18.6 yards per reception in six games according to MaxPreps.
A standout in track as well as on the gridiron, Denmark finished second in the state in the 100 meters (a 10.92-second time) and third in the state in the 200 meters as a sophomore last spring. He helped Hanahan capture the 2014 state championship in the 4X400 relay.
Virginia Tech now has six commitments, including two from South Carolina, in total in the class of 2016. Three are projected to play cornerback, while the other three -- QB Logan Byrd, WR Conner O'Donnell and Denmark -- are projected to play on offense. Virginia Tech didn't take one true wide receiver in 2015, though Coleman Fox could end up as a slot receiver. Fellow 2015 recruit Chris Cunningham is more like an H-Back type, and he is listed as a tight end on Hokiesports.com. Tech now has two receiver commits in the class of 2016. I look for the staff to try and add at least one more receiver in this class.
