Four-star defensive tackle Tim Settle has committed to Virginia Tech. The Stonewall Jackson (Manassas, VA) senior, one of the most coveted defensive tackles in the nation in the class of 2015, announced his decision during the 2015 Under Armour All-American Bowl.
At 6’3”, 330 pounds, Settle blends size with explosion off the ball. He has anchored the Stonewall Jackson line each of the past two seasons, earning Washington Post first-team all-metro honors as a junior and senior. As a senior, Settle had 17 tackles for loss and three sacks.
Louisville and USC were the other finalists for Settle, who made official visits to those two as well as Virginia Tech. He also made official trips to Oklahoma State and Washington State.
Settle is the third defensive tackle commit Virginia Tech has landed in the class of 2015, joining fellow in-state standout Harry Lewis of Phoebus and Indianapolis (IN) native Eric Whitehead.
This is a great start to what could be a highly successful recruiting weekend for the Hokies. Two more class of 2015 targets – wide receiver Lawrence Cager and quarterback Dwayne Lawson – plan to reveal their decisions this weekend. Cager will announce during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Saturday, while Lawson will commit during the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl on Sunday. TSL’s Take
Some cautious optimism here. Obviously, it’s great to land a player with the talent level of a Settle. As I mentioned in an update earlier this week, Settle’s talent is not a question. The biggest question right now is academics and if/when he’ll be able to make it to Tech. We have heard prep school is a real possibility here. We’ll just have to see how things play out. If he does make it to Blacksburg, he has the talent to be an immediate force on the inside for defensive coordinator Bud Foster.
