Virginia Tech senior defensive tackle Luther Maddy will miss the remainder of the 2014 season because he needs another knee surgery. On the bright side, Maddy says he will get a medical hardship waiver this year and be eligible to play as a r-senior in 2015.
Need another surgery so I'll redshirt this season and play another year at tech. You won't find anybody more focused! #HokieNation #Blessed

Through his first three seasons, Maddy has 22 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks, and he was expected to be the bell-cow for the Tech defense this season. However, tendonitis in the preseason limited his performance, and then he suffered a torn meniscus against ECU. He has not played since the Georgia Tech game, and he has just 0.5 TFL and no sacks on the season.
Maddy has a potential NFL future, but an injury-plagued senior season with unimpressive stats would have seriously hurt his draft stock. Instead, he plans to take a medical hardship and get ready for the 2015 season, which hopefully will go better for him.
With Maddy's return, Virginia Tech will bring back every single defensive lineman on their current roster in 2015.
