Rising junior power forward Marshall Wood has decided to give up basketball.
Wood, from Rustburg, VA, averaged 3.8 points and 3.6 rebounds in his two-year career at Virginia Tech. He told Mark Berman of the Roanoke Times that he was giving up basketball to focus on academics.
Wood was one of our expected transfers that we've been alluding to (along with Maurice Kirby) in recent TSL Pass articles, though we didn't expect him to give up basketball completely. His departure leaves the Hokies with three open scholarships, assuming Will Johnston's scholarship is not renewed.
