Virginia Tech wide receiver Danny Coale was selected in the fifth round with the #152 overall pick by the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday. He was the final Hokie taken in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Coale is second all-time at Virginia Tech in receptions, finishing his career with 165 catches for 2,658 yards and eight touchdowns. He also punted and returned punts during his career. He averaged 43.5 yards per punt in 13 attempts in 2011, with a long of 61 yards. He returned 10 punts for 74 yards in his career.
There are currently seven wide receivers on the Dallas roster, including Coale. Three were rookies during the 2011 season, and none of them caught passes. That means the door could be open for a lot of playing time for Coale.
Five other Tech players have signed rookie free agent contracts: Jarrett Boykin (Jacksonville), Jaymes Brooks (Green Bay), Eddie Whitley (Dallas), Blake DeChristopher (Arizona) and Cris Hill (Buffalo).
