Vince Hall Wins Dudley Award

Virginia Tech linebacker Vince Hall won the Dudley Award yesterday. The
Dudley Award, named after early 1940s University of Virginia standout
"Bullet" Bill Dudley, is given annually to the top Division 1 football
player in the state of Virginia. Hall is the fifth Hokie in a row to win the
award, and he joins such former Hokie greats as Cornell Brown, Corey Moore, Lee
Suggs, and Bryan Randall.

The Dudley has been in existence since 1990, and in its 17-year history, Hokie
football players have captured the award nine times. In the last eight years,
Hokie players have received the award seven of eight times over Virginia
players, matching the on-field performance of the two teams. (A non-VT and
non-UVa player has not won the award since Marc Menga of Richmond captured it in
1998.)

The Dudley Award voting was done by panel of 15 sports writers and broadcasters
from around the state.
