Virginia Tech and Mike Young added an international commitment on Saturday morning from Antonio Dorn of Germany. ESPN's Jonathan Givony first reported the news and Dorn confirmed it on his Instagram.
The seven-footer ventures to Blacksburg from Southern Germany after spending the last two seasons with Bozic Estriche Knights Kirchheim in the country's second division. He averaged 9.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in 2024-25 — an increase from his respective 5.3 and 2.7 marks last year.
Dorn, who turns 22 on May 25, will be a freshman for the Hokies this fall. He scored in double figures 15 times in Germany's ProA league this year, which included one 16-point, 15-rebound double-double. He previously played for Ratiopharm Ulm and won the BBL (Basketball Bundesliga), the nation's top-flight league. He's also represented his country at the 2023 FIBA U20 European Championship.
He's the first Hokies player from Germany since Malik Müller (2013-15) and is the second international player under Young after David N'Guessan (2020-22). As far as seven-footers go, he's Tech's first from outside of the United States since Trinidad & Tobago's Johnny Hamilton (2015-16) and the first from Europe since Robert Krabbendam of The Netherlands (2004-07).Dorn is the third newcomer for Virginia Tech this offseason, joining transfers Amani Hansberry (West Virginia) and Izaiah Pasha (Delaware) — two players ESPN's Jeff Borzello lists in his top-100 transfer portal prospects.
