Virginia Tech picked up a big commitment from one of its top remaining targets on Monday when linebacker Amarri Irvin announced his pledge to the Hokies on his Instagram. He was previously committed to Notre Dame.

Irvin plays for IMG Academy in Florida, where he faces top competition each weekend, as well as every day in practice. He was one of Notre Dame’s earliest commitments in the class, and he is also listed with offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Tennessee, Texas, and many others.

He's the 25th commitment in Tech's 2027 class, which ranks seventh in 247Sports' team recruiting rankings.

Though he’s considered a bit undersized at 6 feet, 215 pounds, Irvin is an excellent athlete who packs a punch and has the instincts of a natural inside linebacker. ESPN still considers him a top prospect, though he’s dropped a bit in the ratings of Rivals and 247 due to his size.

• ESPN: Four-star, No. 130 prospect overall, No. 3 linebacker, No. 15 player in Fla.
• 247Sports: Three-star, No. 29 linebacker, No. 31 player in Fla.
• Rivals: Three-star, No. 62 linebacker, No. 70 player in Fla.

Regardless of his ranking, Irvin was a priority recruit for James Franklin, Brent Pry and the Hokies.
