Virginia Tech and James Franklin added to their stellar 2027 recruiting class on Friday with a commitment from safety Turmarian Moreland. Zach Blostein of 247Sports first reported the news.
Moreland had a final three schools of Auburn, Georgia and Tech. He ultimately chose the Hokies after an official visit in May, and took a trip to Auburn but called off his visit to Athens. He moved up his commitment date, too, which was previously scheduled for July 4. Tech safeties coach Anthony Midget was his lead recruiter.
All of the recruiting services have Moreland as a three-star prospect. The 247Sports composite rankings have him as the No. 572 overall prospect. Here's the breakdown:
• 247Sports: No. 31 ATH, No. 42 in Fla.
• Rivals: No. 41 S, No. 44 in Fla.
• ESPN: No. 66 S, No. 71 in Fla.
Along with the Tigers and Bulldogs, Moreland held Power Four offers from Cal, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, NC State, Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse and West Virginia.
He is a two-way player at Palm Beach Lakes High School, where he racked up 45 tackles on the defensive side of the ball and hauled in 10 passes last season.
Moreland is the 24th commit in the Hokies' 2027 class and the sixth defensive back. The group is currently No. 7 in 247Sports' rankings, No. 12 in the 247Sports composite rankings and No. 20 by On3.
