Virginia Tech and James Franklin made a massive recruiting splash on Thursday afternoon when they received a commitment from four-star quarterback and top-100 prospect Peter Bourque.
A unanimous top-10 signal-caller in the 2027 class, Bourque chose the Hokies over Georgia and Penn State. Hokies quarterbacks coach Danny O'Brien and offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Ty Howle were his lead recruiters. He unofficially visited Blacksburg in April for Tech’s spring game.
Bourque had a massive offer list, which included Arkansas, Michigan, Florida, Illinois, Louisville, Miami, NC State, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas A&M, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin.

• 247Sports: No. 80 nationally, No. 7 QB, No. 1 in Mass.
• Rivals: No. 107 nationally, No. 9 QB, No. 1 in Mass.
• ESPN: No. 126 nationally, No. 8 QB, No. 1 in Mass.
A Navy All-American Bowl participant, he was the Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year in 2025 after throwing for 2,241 yards and 18 touchdowns while completing 63 percent of his passes (131-for-207). He also racked up 688 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground on 80 carries (8.6 ypc).
He joins a quarterback room under Franklin, O’Brien and Howle that features Penn State transfer Ethan Grunkemeyer, North Carolina transfer Bryce Baker and high school prospects Kelden Ryan (r-Fr.) and Troy Huhn (Fr.).
Bourque is the Hokies’ 12th commitment in the class of 2027 and the highest-ranked prospect.
