Virginia Tech and Mike Young added a commitment from NC State big man Musa Sagnia (sahn-yay) on Friday morning.

As a true freshman at NC State, he averaged 2.3 points and 2.8 rebounds per game while shooting 59.6 percent from the field (34-for-57). He appeared in all 34 games for the Wolfpack (20-14, 10-8 ACC), with one start, and averaged 12.4 minutes per game.

He had six outings where he corralled at least six boards, highlighted by a career-high 10 rebounds vs. UAB in the second game of the year. The other five instances were against UNC Greensboro (seven), VCU (six), Ole Miss (seven), Wake Forest (eight) and Duke (eight).

The 23-year-old from The Gambia scored a season-high 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting vs. Syracuse on Jan. 27, while grabbing four boards. He also posted seven points on 2-for-3 shooting at Florida State, which included his lone made 3-pointer of the season (1-for-4). He racked up 20 steals and 17 blocks on the year.

According to Bart Torvik, Sagnia had a box plus-minus rating of 1.7 last year, with a minus-0.9 mark on the offensive end but 2.7 defensively. His offensive rebound rate of 11.9 ranked 14th in the ACC among players with at least 30 percent of minutes, below Christian Gurdak (14.8, No. 4) and above Amani Hansberry (11.0, No. 19). 

Sagnia ventured to NC State by way of Spain, where he played for Baxi Manresa in Liga ACB, the country's highest professional league. He averaged 4.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game in 2023-24.

He's the sixth commit of the offseason for the Hokies, joining Kuol Atak, Miles Heide, Isaiah Elohim, Ned Hull and Jaylen Curry.
