Virginia Tech and James Franklin received a late-night commitment on Thursday from Chase Johnson.

ESPN has Johnson as a four-star prospect and ranks him as the No. 270 overall talent in the 2027 class and the No. 27 cornerback, along with the No. 32 player in Georgia.

He's a three-star recruit by 247Sports and On3. The former lists him as the No. 33 player in the Peach State, while the latter has him at No. 63.

Johnson, who was scheduled to officially visit Blacksburg on May 29, was offered by the Hokies on April 30 and committed shortly after.

He was a highly sought-after prospect with numerous Power Four offers, including Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, NC State, Oregon, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, SMU and Vanderbilt.

The Volunteers were his first offer, and he took two unofficial visits each to Knoxville, Gainesville and Tallahassee, plus three to Athens. He had one trip apiece to Alabama and Miami. His official visits scheduled for June included Florida State, Louisville and Auburn.

The Swainsboro, Ga., native is the 10th commit in the Hokies' 2027 class and the second from Georgia, joining running back Stanley Smart (Savannah). Both 247Sports and On3 rank him as the second-best recruit in the group, just behind McDonogh School defensive lineman Joseph Buchanan. Given the program's recent emphasis in that state, it's no surprise.

Virginia Tech's first full recruiting class under Franklin currently sits at No. 19 overall, per the 247Sports composite rankings, and No. 25 by On3.
