Virginia Tech and James Franklin flipped wide receiver Demarcus Brown from Virginia on Sunday. Kolby Crawford of 247Sports first reported the news.
The North Cross product from Roanoke originally committed to the Cavaliers on Dec. 4. He was the highest-ranked recruit in UVa's 2027 class. However, Franklin & Co. kept their foot on the gas with Brown and were able to flip him from their in-state rival in April.
He's a three-star prospect by all three recruiting services and a unanimous top-10 talent in the Commonwealth of Virginia. However, the 247Sports composite rankings gives him a four-star rating and lists him as the No. 411 player in the country.
Brown hauled in 53 passes for 1,112 yards and 14 touchdowns as a junior. He also lined up at safety and picked off six passes while forcing two fumbles. He's a basketball player, too.
Cal, Louisville, Maryland, NC State, Oklahoma, Pitt, South Carolina, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, West Virginia and Wisconsin were among his other Power Four offers.
He's the ninth commit in Virginia Tech's 2027 class and the second wide receiver, joining Anthony Roberts (Rolesville, N.C.).
