Virginia Tech picked up a commitment from Pennsylvania running back Kelvin Morrison on Thursday afternoon. He is the fifth commitment of the 2027 class and the first offensive player.
A three-star talent, Morrison ranks in the top 20 in that state by all three recruiting services. ESPN ranks him as the No. 14 overall prospect in the Keystone State. He was also listed with scholarship offers from Miami, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Penn State, Pitt, and many others.
Miami and Penn State seem to have been Virginia Tech’s primary competition.
Morrison has been an extremely productive back throughout his high school career. Here are his overall numbers:
• Freshman: 100 carries, 812 yards, 8.1 ypc, 9 TDs
• Sophomore: 157 carries, 1,422 yards, 9.1 ypc, 21 TDs
• Junior: 174 carries, 1,645 yards, 9.5 ypc, 19 TDs
Morrison is from Hermitage, Pa., which is north of Pittsburgh and east of Cleveland.
