Virginia Tech picked up a big defensive line commitment from McDonogh School’s Joseph Buchanan on Thursday afternoon.
He becomes the fourth commitment of the Hokies’ 2027 recruiting cycle, with all four commits being defensive linemen. Three of those commits are from Maryland.
Buchanan is the highest-ranked pledge thus far.

Buchanan had official visits scheduled to Virginia Tech and NC State, but recently canceled his visit with the Wolfpack. He is also listed with offers from Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oregon and others.
Though he plays on the edge for McDonogh School, Buchanan keeps getting bigger and is now listed at 270 by Rivals, which means he is a strong candidate to slide inside to defensive tackle in college.
