Virginia Tech and James Franklin picked up a defensive line commitment on Tuesday from Xavier Perkins, according to his school's Instagram (C.E. Jordan).
Perkins is the third pledge in the Hokies' 2027 recruiting class and the third on the defensive line, joining Alexander Taylor and Brock Frisby. He committed after visiting Blacksburg on April 7.
He's a three-star prospect from Durham by both 247Sports and On3. The former has him as high as No. 11 in North Carolina while the latter has him at No. 26.
Perkins is listed with other Power Four offers from Auburn, Duke, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, North Carolina, Ole Miss and Wake Forest. He had other visits planned to Miami, Louisville and Duke over the summer.
As a junior in 2025 at C.E. Jordan High School, he was credited with 24 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 26 quarterback hurries and six sacks. He also competes in track & field and set an indoor school record of 51' 3" in the shot put this year.
