No. 6 Virginia Tech fell 19-12 to No. 3 Oklahoma State on Sunday afternoon in Cassell Coliseum.
In front of a crowd of 6,147 in Blacksburg, the second-best in program history, the Hokies (10-3, 5-0 ACC) battled in one of the season’s most anticipated matchups but came up short against the Cowboys (14-1, 7-0 Big 12).
Tech earned four individual victories, two of which came over top-10 opponents, but Oklahoma State’s depth across the middle weights proved to be the deciding factor.

125: No. 3 Eddie Ventresca (VT) 2, No. 7 Troy Spratley (OSU) 1 (TB)
In a rematch of the 2025 NCAA semifinal, Ventresca flipped the script. After dropping their previous meeting in tiebreakers, the Hokie controlled the final ride-out this time, securing a 2-1 tiebreaker decision. In a match defined by position and discipline, Ventresca struck first, looking to set the tone.
Virginia Tech grabbed the early 3-0 lead.
133: No. 10 Jax Forrest (OSU) 10, No. 6 Aaron Seidel (VT) 9
Seidel and Forrest traded offense in one of the dual’s most entertaining bouts. Forrest managed to edge ahead late, escaping with a narrow 10-9 decision in a back-and-forth contest. The loss was Seidel’s first at the collegiate level.
Oklahoma State evened the team score at 3-3.
141: No. 2 Sergio Vega (OSU) 11, No. 22 Tom Crook (VT) 2
Vega created separation early and held control of the bout from start to finish. Crook battled, but the top-five opponent proved to be too much for him, leading to an 11-2 major decision loss.
The Cowboys moved in front 7-3.
149: Drew Gorman (VT) 4, Beau Hickman (OSU) 1 (SV)
Gorman answered in a pivotal moment. Trailing late, he earned an escape to force overtime tied at one before finishing a low single in sudden victory for the winning takedown, getting the Hokies back on track.
Tech pulled within one, trailing 7-6.
157: No. 7 Landon Robideau (OSU) 3, No. 16 Ethen Miller (VT) 2
Miller was locked in another tight battle, but Robideau secured the decisive three points in the closing stages via two stall points and an escape. Despite a razor-thin margin, Virginia Tech once again found itself in a four-point hole.
Oklahoma State extended its edge to 10-6.
165: No. 2 Ladarion Lockett (OSU) 8, No. 33 Mac Church (VT) 2
In a pivotal matchup, Church was able to keep himself in the bout against one of the nation’s best, but the higher ranked Lockett was able to show why he was top two in his weight class, holding control of position and steadily accumulating points. The 8-2 decision added to the Cowboys’ cushion.
The score shifted to 13-6 in favor of OSU.
174: No. 7 Alex Facundo (OSU) 4, No. 30 Sergio Desiante (VT) 1
Desiante kept the match competitive, but Facundo capitalized on key opportunities to secure a 4-1 decision, putting the Hokies in a must-win situation going into the higher weights.
The Cowboys widened the gap to 16-6.
184: No. 32 Jaden Bullock (VT) 2, Trevor Dopps (OSU) 0
Bullock provided a spark with a disciplined, defensive performance for the Hokies. After earning an escape, he locked in a third-period ride to preserve a 2-0 victory. The win trimmed the deficit and gave Tech hope heading into the final two weights.
Virginia Tech closed within 16-9.
197: No. 14 Sonny Sasso (VT) 2, No. 7 Colby Merrill (OSU) 1
Sasso turned in one of the toughest performances of the afternoon. After forcing a stall call to tie the bout in the third period, he took the lead with a late escape and held firm defensively to secure a 2-1 decision over a top-10 opponent.
The upset brought Virginia Tech’s deficit to 16-12 with one bout remaining, meaning it would need a major decision from Jimmy Mullen to send the match to criteria.
285: No. 7 Konnor Doucet (OSU) 6, No. 17 Jimmy Mullen (VT) 1
Mullen needed bonus points to steal the dual and battled, but Doucet was able to be on the defensive, knowing he just had to avoid losing by major decision. He did more than that, though, and the 6-1 decision sealed the team victory for Oklahoma State.
After splitting the weekend against North Carolina and Oklahoma State, the Hokies will turn their attention to Duke on Friday, their final regular-season match.
