The Hokies picked up a 22-14 victory over No. 24 Stanford behind six individual victories, including two bonus-point performances.

Virginia Tech (7-2, 2-0 ACC) won six of the 10 bouts against the Cardinal (3-6, 1-2) and did just enough in toss-up matches to secure the dual.

Here is a bout-by-bout recap of how the match unfolded.

125: No. 3 Eddie Ventresca (VT) 5, No. 12 Nico Provo (Stanford) 1

Ventresca opened the night with a controlled performance against a top-15 opponent. He scored early and managed the pace throughout, limiting Provo’s offense while working from the top to build riding time. Ventresca closed out the bout with a 5-1 decision.

Tech took an early 3-0 lead.

133: Aaron Seidel (VT) 13, No. 7 Tyler Knox (Stanford) 0

Seidel delivered one of the most impressive performances of the night. He was aggressive from the opening whistle, scoring takedowns and controlling the bout from the top position. Seidel continued to pile on points and secured a 13-0 major decision upset against a top 10 ranked wrestler.

That extended Virginia Tech’s lead to 7-0.

141: No. 18 Jack Consiglio (Stanford) 6, No. 22 Tom Crook (VT) 5 

Crook and Consiglio traded scores in a tight, back-and-forth bout. Crook stayed competitive throughout, but Consiglio was able to create late separation and hang on for a narrow 6-5 decision.

Stanford cut into its deficit, making it 7-3.

149: No. 10 Collin Gaj (VT) 2, No. 9 Aden Valencia (Stanford) 1

Gaj won a low-scoring, tactical bout against another top-10 opponent. After a scoreless first period, Gaj was able to capitalize at the start of the second and protected the lead with strong defense down the stretch. He earned a 2-1 decision.

Tech pushed its advantage to 10-3.

157: No. 10 Daniel Cardenas (Stanford) 11, No. 16 Ethen Miller (VT) 2 

Cardenas took control early and continued to add points throughout the match. Miller battled, but Cardenas pulled away late to secure a major decision.

Stanford trimmed Virginia Tech’s lead to 10-7.

165: No. 14 Ryan Burton (VT) 8, EJ Parco (Stanford) 2

Burton responded with a strong performance to regain momentum for Tech. He controlled the action, scored multiple takedowns and limited Parco’s offense on his way to an 8-2 decision.

That gave Virginia Tech a 13-7 lead.

174: No. 33 Sergio Desiante (VT) 8, Collin Guffey (Stanford) 6

Desiante was tested but came through for the Hokies in a tight bout. He was able to create separation with timely scoring and held off Guffey late to secure an 8-6 decision.

Tech extended its cushion to 16-7.

184: No. 33 Adam Wojcikiewicz (Stanford) 6, No. 31 Jaden Bullock (VT) 5 

Bullock battled in another close match, but Wojcikiewicz was able to hold him off. The Stanford wrestler earned a narrow 6-5 decision to pick up key team points and close the overall gap to 16-10.

197: No. 17 Angelo Posada (Stanford) 13, No. 15 Sonny Sasso (VT) 4 

Posada controlled the bout and created separation with consistent scoring, particularly in the second period, when he outscored Sasso 5-1. He pulled away to earn a major decision and made it Virginia Tech 16, Stanford 14 with one bout remaining.

285: No. 16 Jimmy Mullen (VT) fall, Luke Duthie (Stanford), 7-1, 2:58

With the match on the line, Mullen delivered in a big way. He controlled the heavyweight bout and secured a fall with two seconds remaining in the first period to seal the team victory for the Hokies.

Mullen’s pin clinched the dual for Virginia Tech. The Hokies are back on the road next week as they head to Raleigh to face NC State at 7 p.m. ET on Friday.
