Virginia Tech and James Franklin received a commitment from Penn State linebacker Keon Wylie on Thursday morning. Hayes Fawcett of On3 first reported the news.
The Philadelphia native has at least one year remaining, if not two, should a medical waiver be granted. He redshirted as a true freshman in 2022, played in 2023 as a redshirt freshman and then missed the 2024 season due to injury. As a redshirt junior in 2025, he totaled 28 tackles, 2.5 TFLs and one sack for the Nittany Lions.
Wylie has played 341 snaps over 29 career games and has racked up 47 tackles, 8.0 TFLs and 4.5 sacks. He posted a 65.9 overall defensive grade this season with a 73.7 mark against the run, a 58.9 tackling grade and a 56.7 pass-rushing grade.
He's a Imhotep Charter Institute product, where he was a three-time all-state selection. He was a four-star prospect by Rivals, who ranked him the No. 9 player in Pennsylvania and No. 20 overall linebacker in the 2022 class. He was a three-star talent according to 247Sports, ESPN and On3.
Wylie had a slew of Power 4 offers out of high school, including Arizona State, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, NC State, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Pitt, Rutgers, Tennessee, Texas A&M and West Virginia.
This time around, he visited the Hokies when the transfer portal opened and committed shortly after. He's their ninth portal pickup of the offseason and the first linebacker.
