Virginia Tech and James Franklin received a commitment from Troy cornerback Jaquez White on Wednesday. Hayes Fawcett of On3 first reported the news.

The Blackshear, Ga., native visited Tennessee when the transfer portal opened but eventually chose the Hokies.

White was impressive this season for the Trojans, earning Second Team All-Sun Belt honors after racking up 67 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, one sack, three interceptions and 11 pass breakups. He had a 30-yard pick six vs. Louisiana on Oct. 25 and intercepted James Madison quarterback Alonza Barnett in the Sun Belt championship game on Dec. 5.

He received an 86.8 overall defensive grade from PFF, with an 88.6 run defense grade and an 86.3 coverage grade. His tackling was at 63.9. Among FBS cornerbacks with at least 50 percent of snaps played this season, he ranked eighth in overall defensive grade and was the second-highest rated Group of 5 player.

White was an unranked prospect out of Pierce County High School in the 2023 class despite being an all-region pick at wideout and an all-state defensive back. He began his journey at D-II Washburn, where he started 11 games as a true freshman and recorded 37 tackles. As a sophomore, he had 39 tackles over 10 games to go with a 30-yard pick six vs. Northeastern State and two blocked field goals against Missouri Southern.

In terms of top transfer portal talent, he is the No. 55 overall player, per On3. He's the second top-100 pickup for Tech, joining former Missouri defensive end Javion Hilson, who is No. 83. Moreover, he's the second cornerback commitment, joining UConn's Cam Chadwick.

White is the Hokies' eighth portal addition of the offseason. For more information on Virginia Tech's comings and goings in the portal, click here for Tech Sideline’s roster management page.
