Virginia Tech and James Franklin received a commitment from UConn cornerback Cam Chadwick on Monday.

The Plainfield, N.J., native played 1,607 snaps over the last two seasons and racked up 114 tackles, 3.5 TFLs, one sack and six interceptions with the Huskies. After redshirting as a true freshman, he had a solid 2024 and had an even more impressive 2025 with 67 tackles and four interceptions. (For comparison, the Hokies had four picks as a team last fall.)

Three of those interceptions, along with his one sack, came on Nov. 1 against UAB. He also posted a career-high nine tackles on Sept. 13 at Delaware. His other pick came on Oct. 4 vs. FIU.

PFF gave him a 71.2 overall defensive grade in 862 snaps this season, with a 78.5 mark against the run and a 74.1 tackling grade. His coverage numbers dipped from 2024, though, from 77.7 to 68.8. How did he fare against the three Power 4 teams he played? Here's a breakdown:

• Sept. 6 at Syracuse: 6 tackles, 48.7 overall defense, 48.9 coverage, 9 receptions on 9 targets (100%)
• Oct. 18 at Boston College: 4 tackles, 70.5 overall defense, 72.1 coverage, 1 reception on 5 targets (20%)
• Nov. 8 vs. Duke: 6 tackles, 66.4 overall defense, 66.1 coverage, 5 receptions on 5 targets (100%)
• Overall: 16 tackles, 61.9 average overall defense, 62.4 average coverage, 15 receptions on 19 targets (78.9%)

Out of high school, Chadwick was a three-star prospect in the 2023 class by 247Sports, ESPN and On3. Rivals gave him two-star status. His FBS offers included Army, Colorado State, Delaware, Duke, James Madison, Navy, New Mexico State, Temple and Wake Forest.

He's the Hokies' sixth transfer portal commitment of the offseason. For more information on Virginia Tech's comings and goings in the portal, click here for Tech Sideline’s roster management page.
