Queue up another flip for Virginia Tech and James Franklin, this time from four-star linebacker Terry Wiggins, he announced live on CBS Sports on Wednesday.
Wiggins, who hails from Coatesville, Pa., became one of the highest-ranked members of the Hokies’ 2026 recruiting class when he flipped from Penn State.
A unanimous four-star recruit, Wiggins took official visits to Cincinnati, Colorado, Kentucky, North Carolina, Penn State, West Virginia and Virginia Tech. Most of those visits came after Franklin was fired as the Nittany Lions’ head coach. Boston College, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan State, Minnesota, Pitt, Syracuse and Vanderbilt were also interested.
Wiggins is ranked as follows by the various recruiting services:
- 247Sports: Four-star, No. 120 player overall, No. 8 LB, No. 4 player in Pa.
- Rivals: Four-star, No. 220 player overall, No. 13 LB, No. 6 player in Pa.
- ESPN: Four-star, No. 24 LB, No. 11 player in Pa.
The linebacker took his official visit to Virginia Tech over the weekend to check in with Franklin in Blacksburg while the Hokies were in Charlottesville for their game against UVa, and he committed soon after his visit.
A Penn State pledge since May 2, Wiggins never officially decommitted from the Nittany Lions, as he presumably was waiting to see who would take over from Franklin. However, since Franklin was hired early by the Hokies, Tech had a couple of weeks to work on the flip.
Along with unanimous four-star running back Messiah Mickens, it marks the first time Tech has had two top-10 recruits from Pennsylvania in the same class since 2001 with Kevin Jones and Fred Lee.
