Pina, who visited Blacksburg in September for the Vanderbilt game, chose the Hokies over UNLV, Southern Miss and a few FCS schools, including Jackson State, Sacramento State and The Citadel. He also visited Florida State and UCF and drew interest from Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee.
He's a late bloomer who switched from basketball — where he was averaging 24 points and 10 rebounds per game as a junior and was drawing interest from Tulane and Mercer — to football in the spring and immediately caught the eyes of college scouts. The Orlando Sentinel profiled Pina in June, and he shared that he scored 10 or 11 touchdowns in his first 7-on-7 tournament and "fell in love with it." He also earned the nickname "The Freak," runs a 4.5-second 40-yard dash and has played multiple positions on both sides of the ball.
He's the 10th commitment of the Hokies' 2026 class and the fifth on offense. He's also Tech's first tight end pickup since it added Zeke Wimbush, a current redshirt sophomore, in the 2023 recruiting class.
