The Hokies have their second departure in the wake of Brent Pry's firing: wide receiver/punt returner Tucker Holloway is planning to redshirt and put his name in the transfer portal.

The junior redshirted last year after tearing his ACL the previous spring. The NCAA has looked at regular and medical redshirts differently in recent years, allowing players to take both during their careers, provided there's the proper documentation.

Holloway had played in four games this year, necessitating a decision to preserve his redshirt now. He announced his future plans on social media Thursday afternoon:

Though Holloway hasn't made much of an impact at receiver, with 13 career receptions for 149 yards, with just five grabs for 82 yards, he's been a punt return extraordinarre since arriving in Blacksburg in 2022.

Though he hasn't gotten it going much this year, Holloway's averaged 14.0 yards per return for his career, among the best averages in Virginia Tech history. He set the school record for return yards against Georgia Tech in 2022, piling up 188 yards, including a 90-yarder for a touchdown. In 2023, he earned third-team All-ACC honors.

It's unclear who Tech might turn to in his stead, though receiver Isaiah Spencer was listed next on the depth chart before the Wofford game. The Hokies have not released a depth chart this week.
