Virginia Tech women's basketball will play in the 2025 edition of the Paradise Jam in Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, the event announced Wednesday.

The Hokies are part of the four-team Island Division that also includes BYU, Oregon State and Vanderbilt. They'll play two games in the Caribbean on the campus of the University of the Virgin Islands: against the Cougars on Thursday, Nov. 27, at 5:30 p.m. ET (6:30 p.m. AT) and on Saturday, Nov. 29, at either noon or 2:30 p.m. ET (1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. AT). All games will be televised on ESPN+.

There are two other sections of the competition: the Harbor Division and Reef Division. Boise State, Elon, North Dakota and Tulane are in the former while LSU, Marist, Miami (OH) and Washington State are in the latter. Florida State and Kansas won the respective Reef and Island Divisions last year.

The Paradise Jam began in 2000 and has both a men's and a women's format. It's the Hokies' third time participating.

Tech won the event in the 2003-04 season under Bonnie Henrickson with victories over Iowa State (67-57) and Mississippi State (63-56). Carrie Mason was the tournament's MVP after posting 35 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, five steals and three blocks over two games.

The Hokies were also part of the field in the 2017-18 season under Kenny Brooks, though that year's event wasn't played in St. Thomas due to damage from Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria. Instead, Eastern Florida State College hosted in Melbourne, Fla. Tech went 1-2 with a win over Drexel (79-67) and losses to Butler (79-77) and No. 11 West Virginia (79-61).

Tech has never met BYU or Oregon State. It's clashed with Vanderbilt three times, most recently on December 30, 2010, in Blacksburg — a 74-68 Hokies win. The Commodores won the other two contests — in 1991 in Boulder, Colo., and in 2008, in Nashville, Tenn. Vanderbilt also played in Blacksburg in the 2024 NCAA Tournament when it was a No. 12 seed and the Hokies hosted as a No. 4 seed.

A snapshot of how the Beavers, Commodores and Cougars performed last season:

  • BYU: 13-17 (4-14 Big 12), No. 86 in NET rankings
  • Oregon State: 19-16 (12-8 WCC), No. 120 in NET; WCC Tournament champions, lost to North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as a No. 14 seed
  • Vanderbilt: 22-11 (8-8 SEC), No. 22 in NET; lost to Oregon in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as a No. 7 seed
