After finishing 50th in 2023-24 with 499.25 points, the Hokies slightly improved.

Virginia Tech ranked 37th after the fall season with 146 points, spearheaded by women's soccer's trip to the Elite Eight, which garnered 73 points. Men's cross country put up 48 points with its 26th-place finish while football was the only other sport to garner points, adding 25 with a Duke's Mayo Bowl appearance. Tech finished 12th in the 18-team ACC in the fall.
The athletic department was solid in the winter and posted 254 points. Through two seasons, it ranked 37th in the country with 400 total points, good for seventh in the league.
Men's swimming & diving was the headliner with a 10th-place finish, equating to 67.5 points. Wrestling finished 11th, good for 66 points. Women's swimming added 54 points after placing 20th while the women's and men's indoor track & field teams finished 35th and 41st, respectively, and combined for 66.5 points (35.5 and 31).
Tech had an OK spring with 136 points. Softball led the way with 50 points after winding up 17th while men's track & field garnered 49 points after placing 23rd. Women's golf chipped in 22.5 points from a 49th-place finish and women's track & field capped it off with a 57th-place finish, earning 14.5 points.
