Virginia Tech picked up a commitment from Green Run (Virginia Beach) defensive end Kamren Johnson on Friday morning. VTScoop.com was first with the news.
The edge defender chose the Hokies over Virginia and Pitt, his other finalists. With the recent decommitment of wide receiver Carnell Warren, this verbal gives Tech three commitments for the 2026 recruiting class.
Johnson — who officially visited Virginia Tech last weekend — is currently ranked as the No. 33 prospect in the state by 247Sports, but many expect him to move up in the rankings as the summer progresses and he plays his senior season. He is listed at 225 by the recruiting services, but he lists himself as 250 on social media, which is a sign that he’s grown a lot since last summer.
Recruited by area specialist Fontel Mines and defensive line coach J.C. Price, Johnson is the latest in a rapidly growing Virginia Tech pipeline at Green Run that includes 2024 wide receiver Keylen Adams, plus a trio of 2025 prospects — wide receiver Jayden Anderson, cornerback Knahlij Harrell and defensive end Zeke Chinwike.
The Hokies could be getting more good news on the defensive line soon, with Kamdon Gillespie of North Carolina announcing his decision between Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech on Saturday, June 14.
