Virginia Tech and Mike Young received a commitment from class of 2025 point guard Brett Freeman on Tuesday evening.

Freeman was named conference player of the year and earned all-district honors this year after setting his school's single-season record for points in a season with 604. According to MaxPreps, he averaged 24.2 points per game, highlighted by a 49-point outing in December against The Rock School. One of 10 finalists for N.C. Mr. Basketball, he was averaging 28.3 points per game when the list came out in mid-January.
He visited Tennessee in early January for the Volunteers' home win over Arkansas. Despite his impressive scoring numbers — he dropped 20-plus in 18 of his team's 26 games and had two 40-point outings — his first big offers came in February from Florida State and Florida International. Freeman never shared that he was offered by the Hokies on social media, but he visited in May and committed soon after.
He's the fourth high school pledge in Tech's class, joining Portsmouth native Sin'Cere Jones and Maryland products Christian Gurdak and Solomon Davis.
His commitment gives the Hokies 12 scholarship players for the 2025-26 season. Programs are allowed to carry up to 15 scholarship players now after NCAA rules changed. Here's a breakdown:
