Virginia Tech and Megan Duffy announced the hiring of Lee Taylor as the women's basketball program's new strength & conditioning coach on Monday.

Taylor replaces Greg Werner, who worked at Tech since 2016. Sources informed Tech Sideline that Werner and the Hokies parted ways this offseason. A staple in strength & conditioning circles for decades, he spent 20 years at James Madison. It was there he formed a tight connection with Kenny Brooks over nearly 14 seasons, and Werner followed Brooks to Blacksburg in 2016. He was retained by Duffy when she was hired in April 2024.

Taylor brings 16 years of experience at the collegiate level to Tech, including 12 in women's basketball. His previous stops include Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky and Penn State.

He ventures to the Hokies after a one-year stint as the Nittany Lions' director of women's basketball athletic performance. Before his time in Happy Valley, he was at Kentucky for three seasons, where he worked with Rhyne Howard, the No. 1 pick in the 2022 WNBA Draft.

Prior to that, he was at Auburn for two years and mentored Unique Thompson, the 19th selection in the 2021 WNBA Draft. Taylor arrived on The Plains after spending six seasons at Tennessee, where he was part of two SEC championships, two Elite Eight appearances, three trips to the Sweet 16 and six top-25 finishes.

He shifted over to women's basketball after working with the Volunteers' football program in 2012. He also spent time at Eastern Illinois, Incarnate Word and Missouri Valley College — his alma mater — from 2009-12.

He's the first offseason staff addition for Duffy. Werner is the second departure, joining chief of staff Meghin Williams, who was named Cal women's basketball's general manager.
