Virginia Tech received a commitment from North Dakota State defensive tackle Kody Huisman (HIGHS-min) on Wednesday. The rising redshirt senior has one year of eligibility remaining.

The Pella, Iowa, native spent four seasons with the Bison and was part of two FCS national championships. He redshirted in 2021 before racking up 1,128 snaps over the next three years, per PFF, and compiled 73 tackles, 12.5 TFLs and 3.5 sacks.

The All-MVFC honorable mention pick played a pivotal role in the team's 2024 run, finishing with 37 tackles, including 7.5 TFLs. He raised his play in the postseason, highlighted by a six-tackle, 2.5-TFL performance with a forced fumble in the FCS semifinals vs. South Dakota State.

Huisman posted impressive PFF grades, too. After an overall defensive mark of 76.5 and a run defense score of 81.3 in the regular season, he elevated his play and was even better in two playoff games — finishing with grades of 82.3 and 85.9, respectively. Overall, he ventures to Blacksburg off a year where he graded out 80.7 overall, 86.6 against the run and 72.7 as a pass rusher.

In his lone game against an FBS opponent in 2024, he had an overall grade of 70.3 in the season opener at Colorado.

He's the fifth offseason addition on the defensive line for the Hokies and the third at tackle, joining Hampton's Jahzari Priester and Mercer's Arias Nash. He's the ninth scholarship tackle, a group headlined by redshirt senior Kelvin Gilliam and redshirt junior Kemari Copeland. Tech lost Josh Fuga, Aeneas Peebles and Wilfried Pene to graduation in December.

At Pella High School, he played on both sides of the ball as a defensive end and a left tackle. The two-time all-state performer also competed in track & field and wrestling. He was an unranked prospect out of high school.

Huisman is the Hokies' first pickup during the spring transfer portal window. For more information on Virginia Tech's comings and goings in the portal, click here for Tech Sideline's roster management page.
