Virginia Tech women's basketball guard Lani White entered the transfer portal on Wednesday, the school confirmed. She has one year of eligibility remaining.
White (6-0) transferred to the Hokies last April after spending her first two years at Utah. After playing a limited role off the bench for the Utes and averaging just 2.5 points per game in 2023-24, she started 31 of Tech's 32 games this year and averaged 9.6 points per game.
The junior was an energizer of sorts for the Hokies. After getting off to a slow start with just two double-digit outings in November, she dropped a crucial 14 points in a road win at Georgia before exploding for 23 in Tech's first game back in Cassell Coliseum vs. Radford.
Her best month of the year was January as she scored in double figures five straight games, highlighted by 20 points in a road victory at No. 13 Georgia Tech. She also posted 18 points in a home win over Louisville.
White's performances took a slight dip against elite opponents like NC State and Notre Dame, but she responded with 20 points vs. Syracuse and 15 points at Virginia. After another quieter stretch of play, she had one of her best games in the first round of the WBIT vs. North Carolina A&T: 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting with a career-high seven rebounds. She followed that up with 11 points in the season finale vs. Texas Tech.
White's jump from sophomore season at Utah to junior year at Virginia Tech was staggering:

Megan Duffy and her staff took a chance on White â their only transfer portal addition last offseason â and it paid off as she got her confidence back and thrived. She was the fifth-leading scorer on a 19-13 (9-9 ACC) team that was one win shy of the NCAA Tournament.
White is the third Hokies player to enter the transfer portal since it opened on Tuesday, joining freshmen Myah Hazelton and Ramiya White. It's possible the Irvine, Calif., native wants to play closer to home for her senior season.
