For the third time since joining the ACC, Virginia Tech will begin football conference play against NC State.
The Hokies open their 2025 ACC slate against the Wolfpack at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh on Sept. 27, the league announced Friday.
Tech's opened league action against NC State twice, both in season openers. The Hokies topped the Wolfpack 20-16 in Raleigh in 2005 thanks to a late Aaron Rouse interception at the 6-yard line. They ran for 314 yards in a 45-24 home win over State in 2020 after the previously scheduled opener against Virginia was postponed due to COVID-19.
It'll be Tech's second trip to play NC State under Brent Pry. The Wolfpack surged in the second half of a 2022 Thursday night game, erasing an 18-point deficit in a 22-21 victory.
The Hokies are 0-2 against NC State under Pry, also dropping a 35-28 game in Lane Stadium in 2023.
Virginia Tech knows the dates for its first five games in 2025, with the season opener against Shane Beamer and South Carolina in Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium set for Sunday, Aug. 31. The time and network have yet to be announced.
The Hokies' home opener in Lane Stadium is six days later on Sept. 6 against Vanderbilt. Tech also plays at home against Old Dominion (Sept. 13) and Wofford (Sept. 20) to close out non-conference play.
The dates for the rest of Virginia Tech's 2025 schedule will be released Monday night on the ACC Network starting at 9 p.m. ET.
The Hokies already know the opponents. They'll get Cal, Louisville, Wake Forest and Miami at home, with road games at Florida State, Georgia Tech and Virginia.
