Virginia Tech received a commitment from Wake Forest wide receiver Donavon Greene on Friday. He's the 17th transfer portal acquisition of the offseason for the Hokies and the second wideout, joining Tennessee's Cameron Seldon.

The Mount Airy, N.C., product spent six seasons with the Demon Deacons, which included a redshirt year, the COVID season and two years in which he was hurt (2021 and '23). He played 1,590 snaps over 33 games since 2019 and caught 102 passes for 1,853 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also doubled as a kick returner in 2020 and returned one for a score.

Greene's PFF grades were good in his first three full seasons — 2019, '20 and '22 — but took a slight drop this season. He played in just eight games in 2024 due to lingering hamstring isssues. Here's a breakdown:

How does he compare to the Hokies' wideouts in 2024? Take a look:

Greene brings experience to a very young Tech wide receiver room now that Jaylin Lane, Stephen Gosnell, Da'Quan Felton and Ali Jennings have departed. Tucker Holloway, who has 155 career snaps, was the unit's veteran before this commitment.

Greene's put up some gaudy numbers in his career. Against Virginia in 2024, he hauled in 11 receptions for 166 yards and a score. He also had multi-touchdown games in 2022 against Clemson and North Carolina.

His success goes back even further than that. In 2020, he finished the campaign with back-to-back 100-yard games at North Carolina (eight catches, 170 yards, two touchdowns) and vs. Wisconsin (six catches, 122 yards). While redshirting in 2019, he reeled in seven catches for 172 yards and a score in the season finale at Syracuse.

Greene was originally a four-star prospect from Mount Airy High School that was a top-300 talent and the No. 11 player in North Carolina in the 2019 class, per the 247Sports Composite. He was rated even higher by 247Sports: No. 3 in the state, the No. 20 wide receiver and No. 128 overall.

He had a slew of offers back then, including Duke, Georgia Tech, NC State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, South Carolina and Tennessee. This time around, he entered the portal on Dec. 23 but kept his recruitment quiet. Ole Miss was another school rumored to be interested.

Greene is Tech's seventh pickup on the offensive side of the ball along with Seldon and running backs Terion Stewart (Bowling Green) and Marcellous Hawkins (Central Missouri). The other three commitments are West Virginia offensive linemen.
