Virginia Tech made a huge splash on Friday when Bowling Green running back Terion Stewart committed to Virginia Tech. Tech Sideline initially confirmed the news before Stewart officially announced it.

Stewart (5-9, 220) was a First Team All-MAC selection in 2024 after rushing for 890 yards and six touchdowns on 160 carries (5.6 yards per carry) in just 10 games (89.0 yards per game). He left the Falcons as the program's all-time leader in yards per carry in a career at 6.0.

The Memphis, Tenn., native was awarded a 78.9 overall offensive grade and a 77.9 run grade in 2024, per PFF. He was also credited with 63 missed tackles forced, which ranked 14th in the nation — though he's the only player in the top 20 with fewer than 180 attempts. For comparison, Bhayshul Tuten graded out at a 75.9 overall, 78.3 in the run game and forced 57 missed tackles (on 183 attempts).

PFF also has a signature "elusive rating" stat that measures success and impact of the runner independently of the blocking. Stewart's elusive rating of 162.9 ranked fifth in the FBS this season.

He had a terrific start to the year in the opener against Fordham, racking up 161 yards and three touchdowns on just 14 carries — which included a 73-yard score. It was one of his four 100-yard games on the year, which came against Kent State (25 rushes, 124 yards), Central Michigan (20 rushes, 117 yards) and Western Michigan (15 rushes, 150 yards).

Stewart has accounted for 2,359 yards and 23 touchdowns in his career on 392 attempts. In 2023, he was an all-conference pick after posting 762 yards and eight scores on 125 carries. His PFF marks that season: 95.3 offensive grade (1st in FBS), 94.0 run grade (T-3rd).

He's been productive every year he's played, even in three games during the COVID season in 2020 when he had 295 yards and four scores on 37 totes (8.0 yards per carry).

A product of Sandusky High School in Ohio, Stewart was a two-time all-state player and tallied 4,908 yards and 68 touchdowns on the ground in his final two seasons. Originally a three-star prospect ranked 2,251 in the 247Sports Composite, he's been at Bowling Green since 2020, where he played for former Hokies offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler. Current Falcons offensive line coach, run game coordinator and co-offensive coordinator Greg Nosal, who played at Virginia Tech from 2008-11, oversaw the running back room in Stewart's first season.

A member of the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award and Doak Walker Award watch lists this season, Stewart joins the Hokies with 633 career snaps. (For comparison, Tuten finished his career with 1,174, though he arrived at Tech having played 643 — 10 more than Stewart's current number.) He redshirted in 2022, and 2020, the COVID year, did not count towards his eligibility.

Stewart is the second transfer portal commitment for the Hokies this offseason, joining Clemson safety Sherrod Covil Jr. He's the team's fourth scholarship running back and joins Jeremiah Coney (r-So.), Tyler Mason (r-Fr.) and Jeff Overton (Fr.).
